Irish actor Michael Fassbender has recently popped up in some big budget, high-profile films like Inglourious Basterds and 300.  He’s also toiled in lesser-known projects, like Fish Tank, Town Creek, Eden Lake, and Angel, and the massive HBO mini-series Band of Brothers (I watched this recently and, although I think he played a fairly prominent character, I only recall seeing him once or twice – that’s what happens when every character wears the same uniform).  His portrayal of IRA protester Bobby Sands in the 2008 film Hunger won him many rave reviews and awards, including a British Independent Film Award and an Irish Film and Television Award.  He has a ton of projects in the pipeline, including Jane Eyre and the comic book adaptation Jonah Hex.

Why He’s More Than Just Eye Candy: He’s fluent in German (as displayed in Inglourious Basterds).  He’s also proven that he’ll go a long way for his art.  For Hunger, he went on a medically monitored crash diet to lose 14 kilos (about 31 pounds) to weigh in at about 59 kilos (around 130 pounds).  So he went full Christian Bale on that one.  Looking through pictures of him (and having seen him in a handful of projects), I’d say that he has the unique gift of being a chameleon.  He rarely looks the same in any two pictures.  I think that this will probably open up a number of roles for him, and hopefully lead to more notoriety.

More pictures after the jump (of course).
