Emile Hirsch has had a busy past few years. He starred in the epic flop, Speed Racer, and the Oscar-nominated films, Milk and Into the Wild. Other films include The Girl Next Door, Lords of Dogtown, and Alpha-Dog. He’s a part of the huge ensemble cast in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock, which comes out this summer (and which I am pretty excited about).
Why He’s More Than Just Eye Candy: He’s a pretty good actor (I really enjoyed Into the Wild, and he was on screen for almost the entirety of the film). I think he picks his projects well, starring in a healthy balance of big budget studio films and smaller, more independent films, as well as taking almost equal lead roles as he does ensemble roles. Plus, that he’s already made a name for himself as an actor (and definitely one to watch in the future – I suspect he’ll be nominated for an Oscar in the next ten years) at such a young age (he just recently turned 24) is admirable.
